21-year old Jamie is another rider who started out riding for Kenny Smith’s Newcastle Gems side. That was back in 2002 and he averaged nearly eight in his first season. Newcastle put him in their Premier League side the following year and he averaged 4.27. He remained with the Diamonds through to 2006, edging his average to around five but 2007 saw him sign for the Workington Comets and he became the innocent victim of a team re-shuffle that saw Carl Stonehewer return to the club. Jamie was quickly snapped up by Berwick but he struggled for form and was dropped in June.
However, he has returned to the Newcastle Diamonds for 2008 and is expected to be a trump card for them after coming in on a low average. Jamie’s only competitive experience at the Eddie Wright Raceway saw him win the British Under-21 round in 2005 ahead of William Lawson and Tommy Allen but he has frequently attended practice sessions. The new method of calculating grades in the Conference League means Jamie is only a ‘grade 6’ rider meaning he will be able to cover for most riders in the team should they be unavailable. |
