Scott is the son of ex-Scunthorpe Stag Derek Richardson who raced for four seasons in Scunthorpe colours until the end of the Ashby Ville era. He first rode a speedway bike in 2004 and it was only his second time on a bike when he turned up to our first ever practice session on 19th September that year. On 24th April 2005 he rode as Rye House’s number eight and just two weeks later he made his debut for the Scorpions in the Conference League. Scott’s progress from ‘wobbler’ to a match winning reserve at Stoke later that season was an incredible feat and it looked like Scott would secure one of the reserve berths for the 2006 season.
Unfortunately for Scott, Tai Woffinden joined the team and along with Josh Auty they became the finest reserve pairing the Conference League has ever seen. Scott persevered and towards the end of the season he provided excellent cover for injured and unavailable riders and in the end rode 16 meetings, averaging a fraction over five. 2007 saw Scott scored 231 points from 39 meetings at an average of 5.67 and then had an outstanding 2008 season. He scored 164 points in 18 meetings at an average of 6.98 and his form saw him fill in for the Scorpions in the Premier League on four occasions. Sadly 2009 saw him badly injure his hand at the start of the season whilst he ended it by breaking his collarbone. In between times his form didn’t quite reach his 2008 form and at the end of the season he was contemplating a season away from the Eddie Wright Raceway. In the end he decided to ride for the Saints once again and become only the second rider to line-up for the club in six consecutive seasons. |
