Scott first rode a speedway bike in 2004. In fact it was only his second time when he turned up to Normanby Road's first ever practice session on 19th September that year. On 24th April 2005 he rode as Rye House's number eight and just two weeks later he made his debut for the Scorpions. Scott's progress from 'wobbler' to a match winning reserve at Stoke later that season was an incredible feat and it looked like Scott would secure one of the reserve berths for the 2006 season.
Unfortunately for Scott, Tai Woffinden joined the team and along with Josh Auty they became the finest reserve pairing the Conference League has ever seen. Scott persevered and towards the end of the season he provided excellent cover for injured and unavailable riders and in the end rode 16 meetings, averaging close a fraction over five. After two months out of the team Scott came back into the side for the trip to Cleveland at the end of August and contributed an impressive 6+1 in a narrow one-point away win. This was followed up with a man of the match display at home to Rye House in the Knockout Cup Semi-final. With the teams level and four heats to go Scott was involved in two 5-1 heat wins that enable the team to travel to Hertfordshire with a 16-point lead. On two occasions in the Conference Shield Scott was unbeaten by an opponent only to slip up in his last ride, the first in heat 15 when he could have rested on his laurels and claimed a maximum. The second was at Sittingbourne, in a meeting where he defeated Dean Felton, the Crusaders number one. However, Scott finest ride was probably at Stoke when he defeated Barrie Evans in heat one before finally losing his maximum chances in his fourth ride when being baulked by Byron Bekker, who had run out of fuel. Scott is the son of ex-Scunthorpe Stag Derek Richardson who raced for four seasons in Scunthorpe colours until the end of the Ashby Ville era. |
