Sam started his UK career in 2004 with Oxford in the Conference League, but ended the season in hospital after smashing his thigh an a meeting at Edinburgh. He finished the season with an average of 3.82.

He returned to Oxford for the 2005 season and increased his average to 4.34. Sam moved on to Boston in 2006 , riding for Saints boss Malcolm Vasey and dramtically increased his average to 7.17. He returned to Oxford in 2007 and increased his average again to 7.61, and was also snapped up by the Berwick Bandits to ride in the Premier League, where he recorded an average of just under two.

Sam is doubling up with the Sheffield Tigers in 2008. Sam and the Saints can only benefit by riding both tracks in such close proximity.
