Kirton-in-Lindsey based and Scunthorpe-born Scott has been riding motorbikes for about twenty years but had barely a dozen sessions on a speedway bike before being signed by the Scorpions for the 2007 season. As a teenager he rode competitive Moto X but then limited his riding to road bikes for several years. In his mid 20s he was back competing, this time in the fledgling British Super Moto Championship where he secured a best finish of 4th at Croft before reverting to Moto X.
A bad accident ended the Moto X involvement but Scott tried a slide school at King’s Lynn and Peter Boast, the former Boston rider who ran the school, suggested he should buy his own bike. After Scott’s road bike was stolen in Holland he decided to invest the insurance money in a Grass Track bike and he raced it on the beach at Mablethorpe. Scott then purchased a speedway bike, purely for the engine to use in his Grasstrack frame, but friends persuaded him to have a go at speedway. His first attempt in February 2005 didn’t go to plan as fuel problems prevented him from getting on track. The bike went unridden for nine months as Scott became a big fan of the Conference League action at Scunthorpe but when the season ended he was back on track and very quickly Scott showed plenty of promise. However, within an hour of being asked to represent the Scorpions in a second-half meeting at Sheffield he had a crash, seriously injuring his knee. A self-employed plumber by trade, Scott had to have six months off work but incredibly he was straight back on a bike, taking part in his first two Grass Track meetings, finishing first and third in his class. Then, in November, he was back practicing at the Scunthorpe Raceway and once again looking fast with his entertaining 'round-the-boards' style. |
