NEW SIGNING Nick Morris will make his debut for the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions in the away Premier League fixture at Somerset’s Oak Tree Arena tonight (Friday).
18-year-old Morris slots into the Scorpions’ line-up at No. 3. His Premier League average is 6.94, although he is likely to substantially improve on that figure.
Morris scored paid 7 from 4 rides for Elite League Swindon in their 60-33 win over Wolverhampton last night, claiming the scalp of Grand Prix rider Freddie Lindgren in the opening race.
A battered David Howe is not quite ready to return, following his Longtrack crash last weekend. Therefore, Redcar’s Ulrich Ostergaard comes in for Howe tonight.
With the new doubling-up pair of Tom Young and Stefan Nielsen both in action in the Scunthorpe Saints v Mildenhall Fen Tigers National League fixture at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight, former Saint Ashley Morris will guest in the No. 6 slot for the Scorpions.
Team manager Richard Hollingsworth said: “It’s nice to be able to track seven riders; I can’t remember the last time we’ve been able to track a team without rider replacement.
“We’re now very nearly back to full strength - David just needs a few more days to recover from his Longtrack injuries.
“Somerset are a formidable team around their own track, with some high quality riders, such as Jason Doyle, Sam Masters and Claus Vissing.
“But it’s a meeting we are approaching to win or gain points from. The signing of Nick Morris adds considerable strength to our line-up, and we will now be approaching every meeting, both at home & away, looking at gain league points.”
Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Ulrich Ostergaard (guest), 2. Thomas Jorgensen, 3. Nick Morris, 4. Michael Palm Toft, 5. Josh Auty, 6. Ashley Morris (guest), 7. Ashley Birks.
