Scunthorpe Speedway’s Clerk of the Course, Andy Scotney, is set to run the Lincoln 10k on Sunday 21st March 2010 to raise funds for Cancer Research in memory of the club’s Team Manager, Kenny Smith, whose life was claimed by cancer last July.
Like so many people he came into contact with Kenny made a big impact on Andy. “I first met Kenny in 2000 when he was Team Manager at Newcastle and I was Clerk of the Course for Boston. We struck up a friendship straight away and once Scunthorpe opened the two clubs had quite a few matches. Eventually Kenny asked if I would come and join the team at Scunthorpe and once Stephen Lambert quit Boston I was straight on the phone to ask Kenny if the offer was still open”.
“He said I would be more than welcome so I started in 2007. It was strange at first joining the local rivals but it wasn’t long before Kenny had me settled in and cracking jokes all the time. I will have a picture of Kenny printed on the back of my T-shirt and will be running in his memory. If anybody would like to sponsor me please see me in the pits before or after the meeting, get in touch by e-mail or give me a call”.
Andy’s e-mail address is andyscotney70@googlemail.com and his phone number is 07784-150912. Kenny Smith is 'interviewed' by Andy Scotney with Machine Examiner Martin Comerford looking on
