Two 5-1 heat advantages for the Rye House Cobras in the final three races put paid to the Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints hopes of claiming a league point from their trip to Hertfordshire yesterday. At 41-33 the match was set for a tense ending but consecutive 5-1s meant there was no last heat decider and despite Mark Burrows and Steve Worrall splitting the home pair in the final race it was Rye House who won the tie 54-38.
26.08.10: Acclaimed author makes annual pilgrimage
Acclaimed speedway author Jeff Scott has chosen Scunthorpe Speedway’s Bank Holiday double-header meeting (August 30th, start time 5pm) to make his annual pilgrimage to the Eddie Wright Raceway.
He will be selling his latest book, the big value 240,000 word Shale Trek,which has already been attracting considerable praise.
25.08.10: Jerran Hart operation update
Jerran Hart has had his broken wrist, ankle and heel operated on simultaneously today. Initial feedback suggests it has been successful but Jerran looks like he may still have to spend a few weeks in Ipswich hospital before he can go home. 25.08.10: Bank Holiday speedway feast
The Eddie Wright Raceway in Scunthorpe plays host to one of its traditional Bank Holiday speedway feasts this Monday with two top class speedway meetings set to start at 5pm. First up are the Premier League Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions against their arch-rivals from just over the county boundary, the Sheffield Tigers, with both sides desperate to pip King’s Lynn and Berwick for sixth place in the league and second pick of opponent in the Young Shield. Then immediately afterwards the talent-filled Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints face the high-flying, title challenging Buxton Hitmen over another fifteen heats of high-octane action.
23.08.10: Raceway to feature on TV
The Eddie Wright Raceway is set to feature on BBC1’s Tears and Gears programme on Monday 6th September. The half hour programme which starts at 10.35pm is the sixth and final episode of a documentary series which follows the intense rivalry between the Smith family from Lancashire and the Wainman family of Yorkshire who have been vying to be the World Champion Stock Car drivers for decades. Originally it was Frank Wainman and Stuart Smith who did battle in the 1970’s and 1980’s, now it is their sons who are battling for the World titles. The series follows the rivalry through the 2009 season when the EWR burst onto the stock car scene as one of the best race tracks in the country.
