22.11.11: Scorpions complete 2012 septet
Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions promoter Rob Godfrey has decided which seven riders will line-up for the team in 2012. Following on from the re-signing of number one and club captain, David Howe, he has announced that, pending BSPA approval, Thomas Jørgensen and Michael Palm Toft remain from the side that finished the 2011 season. Tero Aarnio, who had to sit out the last few meetings with an injury, will return for his third season with the club whilst the side will be completed by the returning Josh Auty, club asset Ashley Birks and exciting Australian prospect Tom Armstrong. The Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions will announce their full line-up on the club website (www.scunthorpespeedway.com) along with another major announcement on Wednesday 23rd November at 6pm. Club Promoter Rob Godfrey declared “We’re dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s but everything will be in place by Wednesday. After finishing tenth, tenth, ninth and seventh in our first four seasons I think we have now been able to build a team with a chance of winning the league. The 2012 Premier League will have the same fourteen teams as in 2011 whilst the team building points limit has been agreed for a further three years. However, the much-maligned ‘second-phase’ league fixtures have been dropped from the schedule and a return to an early season competition plus a six-team end-of-season play-off for the league title.
