01.07.12: Amateur Clash set for Eddie Wright Raceway
The annual clash between the Scunthorpe and Southern Track Riders Club amateurs is set for the Eddie Wright Raceway next Sunday, 8th July. The head-to-head is the only such event in British speedway and the first leg took place earlier today at King’s Lynn. In the Open Class it was Scunthorpe who took the honours 35-28 with British Veteran Speedway Riders’ Champion Gary O’Hare leading the scoring with ten points. Amateur Meetings icon

30.06.12: Greenwood stars for Saints
17-YEAR-OLD OLIVER GREENWOOD put in a sensational performance at Stoke’s Loomer Road last night (Saturday), scoring 16 points for the Jotun Paints Scorpions Saints in just his second meeting after returning from a collarbone injury.

With Danny Phillips ruled out on the morning of the fixture with a swollen knee, sustained the previous night at the Eddie Wright Raceway, the Saints went into this meeting minus five riders: Adam Wrathall, Tommy Fenwick & Danny Phillips (all injured) and Steve Worrall & Gary Irving (both riding in the Workington v Newcastle Premier League fixture).

30.06.12: Saints in the wars
IT PROVED to be a highly eventful evening at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night (Friday), with the Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints losing to a very powerful Mildenhall Fen Tigers outfit.

The Saints were reduced to five riders, after Danny Phillips (badly bruised leg) and Tommy Fenwick (dislocated shoulder) both crashed out of the meeting, while Mildenhall’s Nathan Stoneman suffered a broken femur (leg).

29.06.12: Well deserved point for battling Scorpions
HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions became the first team to take a Premier League point away from Somerset’s Oak Tree Arena last night (Friday), losing 42-48 in a last-heat decider.

The Scorpions never led the match, but kept on pulling back the home team every time the Rebels started to eke out a lead.

28.06.12: Morris makes Scorpions debut
NEW SIGNING Nick Morris will make his debut for the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions in the away Premier League fixture at Somerset’s Oak Tree Arena tonight (Friday).

18-year-old Morris slots into the Scorpions’ line-up at No. 3. His Premier League average is 6.94, although he is likely to substantially improve on that figure.

Morris scored paid 7 from 4 rides for Elite League Swindon in their 60-33 win over Wolverhampton last night, claiming the scalp of Grand Prix rider Freddie Lindgren in the opening race.
