16.12.11: March meeting moved
The March amateur meeting has been moved from Saturday 10th to Saturday 17th with the usual start time of 1pm.
The next meeting is on Saturday 7th January and bookings can be made by contacting Richard Hollingsworth via richard@scunthorpespeedway.com or calling 07832-402167.
11.12.11: Nielsen wins number 62
Stefan Nielsen, a member of the 2011 National League-title winning Scunthorpe Saints, raced to victory in yesterday’s amateur meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway. After looking classy in qualifying he kept the Saints new signing, Tom Young, at bay in the final with Andrew Blackburn continuing his recent upsurge in form to claim third ahead of Sam Woods who shed a chain whilst in third place. Earlier in the day a crash ended the challenge of two other Saints riders, Adam Wrathall and Oliver Greenwood, whilst former Premier League racer Henning Loof also had to pack up early, after winning two of his three races, with bike problems.
13.11.11: Young Welshman wins amateur meeting
Newport Hornets rider Tom Young made the long trip up from South Wales to win the first round of the club’s Winter Series. Jotun Paints Scunthorpe Saints captain Adam Wrathall had impressed with five straight qualifying ride wins but when it mattered the most it was Young who defeated Wrathall and his Saints’ team mate, Oliver Greenwood.
18.10.11: Amateurs impress at King’s Lynn
Nineteen riders in three teams represented Scunthorpe Speedway in the second leg of their amateur match with the Southern Track Riders’ Club at King’s Lynn on Sunday afternoon. All three ties went down to the wire and two of Scunthorpe sides emerged as victors. The ‘A’ team were 21-8 down early on but rallied to lose by just seven on the day and claim a 89-81 aggregate victory. The other two matches went to last heat deciders with the STR ‘B’ team winning 86-84 on aggregate (52-41 on the day) with a 4-2 in the last heat and a 5-1 from Daniel Phillips and Ian Leverington swinging the ‘C’ tie 80-78 (44-33 on the day) in favour of Scunthorpe.
